BOSTON, MA, February 15, 2023 – Casner & Edwards announces the launch of its inaugural Externship Program designed to provide law students who are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion with hands-on experience of the practice of law at a mid-sized law firm. The new program is part of Casner’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) initiative and is managed by the firm’s DEI Committee. Suffolk University Law School student Cesar Anaya-Delgado was selected as Casner’s first extern. He began his semester-long term on February 6, 2023.
Casner's Externship Program offers a comprehensive curriculum that allows law students to rotate through the firm’s various practice areas, including bankruptcy, corporate, employment, family, litigation, nonprofit, real estate, and trusts & estates law. During each rotation, the extern will work side-by-side with partners and associates on pending matters, and at least one partner or senior associate from the practice area will be the extern’s liaison and mentor. Casner will also provide basic training on business aspects of a legal practice and include the student in opportunities, both internally and externally, to gain experience and knowledge about the firm, its people and mid-size law firm practice.
Casner & Edwards’ Co-Managing Partner Marc Fitzgerald said, “Casner is committed to our role in helping to move the needle and expose historically underrepresented law students to law firm practice. We are excited to launch this externship program and welcome Cesar as our inaugural extern.”
Anaya-Delgado, a second-year law student, was selected from a group of talented and impressive candidates. His passion to provide legal assistance to communities of color and while serving as a mentor in Suffolk Law’s Progress to Success program were factors in his selection as Casner’s first extern.
