Walter Howard Mayo is Managing Partner of Casner &
Edwards, where he specializes in trusts
and estates, cable television telecommunications
law and tax. In addition, Mr. Mayo has
forty years of experience in all aspects
of civil litigation. He has argued in
the Supreme Court of the United States,
and has appeared before numerous Federal
Circuit Courts of Appeal, as well as the
Massachusetts State Courts. For the past
thirty years, Mr. Mayo has represented
cable television operators in franchise
and tax matters.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Mayo was
an appellate attorney with the Federal
Maritime Commission in Washington, D.C.
Subsequently, he served in the Department
of the Attorney General of Massachusetts,
where as Chief of the Administrative Division,
he supervised much of the Commonwealth’s
complex civil litigation.
Mr. Mayo has been active in charitable
and civic affairs. He has been a member
of the Board of Governors of the Handel
& Haydn Society, serving both as Secretary
and Vice President of the Board. He was
elected the first Presiding Judge of the
Ecclesiastical Trial Court of the Episcopal
Diocese of Massachusetts, serving in that
capacity for several years. He has been
active in numerous historical and genealogical
associations, and he has been active in
local affairs on Cape Cod, which is his
home.
Mr. Mayo attended Trinity College in Connecticut,
where he received his bachelor’s
degree with honors. He received his law
degree from Yale Law School. He is a member
of the Boston Bar Association.
